Q&A with US summer interns Simren Cannava and Lindsay Coupe

Each summer, our New York and San Francisco offices look forward to welcoming new talent through our internship program.

This year, our New York office welcomed Simren Cannava, a rising senior at the University of Massachusetts - Amherst, and to our San Francisco office, Lindsay Coupe, a rising senior at the University of Southern California. We sat down with them to hear more about them and their time with Infinite, as well as what they learned over the course of the eight-week program.

Tell us about yourself.

Lindsay: I am a rising senior at the University of Southern California (USC), majoring in history and minoring in political science on the pre-law track. Last year, I studied at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) as a part of its year-long General Course program. Outside the classroom, I tutor students at local under-resourced schools through USC’s Joint Education Project and am involved in USC’s Society of Women in Law. I’m from Oakland and Berkeley, California, just across the bay from San Francisco. In my free time, I like to play guitar, explore new food spots around the Bay Area, and read—mostly realistic fiction, historical fiction, and fantasy. Simren: I am a rising senior at UMass Amherst where I am double majoring in journalism and communications with a concentration in public relations. While I wasn’t always sure what career path to pursue, choosing PR has turned out to be the perfect fit. My experience at Infinite, along with several of my courses at UMass, has helped me realize that I thrive in fast-paced environments where I can tie in my strategic thinking with my creativity. The best of both worlds! Outside of work, I am an avid fan of all things outdoors, baking, reading fantasy novels, and anything crafty. Becoming an expert in pottery is next on my list!

What’s been the most rewarding project you’ve worked on during your internship, and why?

Lindsay: The most rewarding project I’ve worked on this summer has been a research initiative analyzing overused jargon in law firm press releases across the US and UK markets. Simren and I had leading roles in the project, shaping the research methodology, compiling and cleaning a dataset of nearly 500 press releases, conducting interviews with former journalists at the firm, and identifying language trends tied to credibility and tone, as well as how word choice influences AI-driven search results. We wrapped up the project with a blog post sharing our findings, which felt especially rewarding because we contributed a complete and original resource to the firm. Simren: The most rewarding project I worked on during my time here at Infinite was the intern research project, which I had the pleasure of working on with Lindsay and the support of our incredible team. Having the opportunity to take full ownership of an assignment, from shaping the research approach to conducting interviews and analyzing the results, was so exciting. Not only was the topic interesting, but what made it so special was the chance to create something tangible that I could call my own. The project combined many different elements like creativity, strategy, and collaboration, and I am so grateful for the experience.

What advice would you give to future interns to help them make the most of their time here?

Lindsay: Take initiative, ask questions, and don’t be afraid to jump in! Everyone at Infinite is so supportive and kind, and they mean it when they say they’re here to help you learn. Also, take part in office activities when you can! We had a field day at Crissy Field this summer, which was a great way to connect with the team in a new setting and beyond day-to-day work. Simren: Don’t be afraid to ask questions! Clear communication is key, especially in an ever-changing field like PR. It might feel intimidating at first, but this internship is meant to be a learning experience, take full advantage of it. Everyone at Infinite is incredibly supportive and willing to help as you grow in your professional career, so lean into the experience!

As you head into your final year of college, what are you most excited about?

Lindsay: I’m looking forward to making the most of my last year at USC, diving deeper into classes and activities that can help shape my next steps post-graduation, whether that’s working in media and communications or applying to law school in a couple of years. I’m also excited to take part in all the campus traditions, as well as go to football games, explore more of Los Angeles, and spend time with friends before we head off in different directions. It feels like a year to be present, make the most of each experience, and stay open to what’s next. Simren: There’s something bittersweet about saying “final year of college.” Time really does fly! I am looking forward to making the most of my last year with friends who have become family and enjoying the unexpected charm of Western Mass (never thought I’d say it, but it did grow on me). But all good things come to an end and I’m gearing up to step into the real world. I am excited to apply everything I’ve learned this summer to my final classes and projects. I also hope to pay it forward and help inspire other students as they navigate their own paths in my new role as a communications peer advisor!

What skills have you developed this summer that you will carry over into your future career?

Lindsay: This internship strengthened my communication skills, particularly in writing for external audiences, like press and clients. Coming from an academic background in the social sciences, I have experience with research and analysis, but through working on topic queries, media pitches, and strategy documents, this role taught me how to write in a more concise and strategic style suited to press and clients. I’ve also developed a more intentional approach to following the news. I’ve grown from simply staying informed to actively monitoring the news with a discerning eye for clients, identifying opportunities to position them in the media and help raise their credibility in their fields. Working in a fast-paced agency environment also taught me how to manage competing priorities, adapt quickly, and consistently follow through, which are skills that I know will be valuable in both communications and legal work going forward. Simren: This summer has allowed me to strengthen my ability to manage multiple projects at once and stay organized under tight deadlines, a skill I know will be crucial as I move forward. I have also become more confident in communicating professionally, whether drafting press materials or collaborating with teams and clients. I also learned how to adapt quickly in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks efficiently. I am confident that these skills will absolutely carry over into whatever I do next.

What is something that surprised you about the Infinite team?

Lindsay: I was happily surprised by how collaborative and welcoming the team was, and how quickly they involved me and Simren in substantive work. From the first day, onboarding us through the same process as permanent employees, I felt like I was truly a part of the team and was able to make meaningful contributions. The open office setup made it easy to ask questions or check in with colleagues, and the transparency across teams was refreshing. Even though people held different roles, everyone was kept in the loop and encouraged to contribute. The open and collaborative atmosphere made it easy to speak up and learn from the team. Simren: Coming in, I expected the usual nerves that come with being the new intern, but from day one, I was welcomed with open arms. What surprised me the most was how genuinely friendly and supportive the Infinite team is, not just toward interns, but toward everyone. The environment is so collaborative and supportive, and everyone here truly wants to see you succeed; it truly made all the difference. I look forward to keeping in touch with everyone!
