Leading media strategy for law firm’s post-Roe legal challenge

Infinite was engaged to provide media strategy and support for a law firm filing the first lawsuit in the aftermath of the Roe v. Wade overruling.

In the aftermath of the U.S. Supreme Court’s Dobbs decision, overruling Roe v. Wade, an all-women litigation team from Boies Schiller Flexner filed the first lawsuit in the nation challenging a state’s “trigger law” (which purported to outlaw abortion automatically upon the overturning of Roe). The lawsuit, Hope v. Landry, was filed in Louisiana on behalf of one of the state’s last remaining abortion providers, challenging the trigger law for being vague, overbroad, and ultimately unconstitutional. Infinite was engaged to counsel the Boies Schiller team on media strategy.

Reproductive freedom was the dominant topic in the news in the wake of the Dobbs decision. But we took nothing for granted, beginning our media outreach before the lawsuit was filed. To ensure coverage, we targeted a broad swath of national political, legal, and health reporters. We also drafted statements from the attorneys for distribution to the media after the suit was filed.

In a landmark victory, a Louisiana judge issued a temporary restraining order, blocking enforcement of the trigger ban and enabling reproductive health clinics to stay open in the state. The order was the first to invalidate, at least temporarily, a trigger law. We succeeded in getting national attention for our client in outlets ranging from The New York Times to the Washington Post and the Associated Press.
